First, I break the task down into smaller pieces so I can see what's realistic.
Then I talk to my manager early if I think the deadline isn't achievable.
I'd rather raise a concern early than surprise everyone at the last minute.

Last year, we had to launch a new feature before a big client demo.
We only had about a week, which was tighter than usual.
I ended up cutting a few non-essential parts of the feature to make it work.
